Building Britain's wind, nuclear and solar energy supply
Rising wholesale gas costs around the world have seen energy prices skyrocket, especially in Britain where we import most of our gas.
That’s why we’re busy building Britain’s own wind, nuclear and solar energy supply – to reduce our reliance on energy imports and help prevent future gas price rises.

We're the biggest generator of zero carbon electricity, generating 17% of the UK's energy supply
UK Fuel Mix disclosure information, published by Government Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, recognises electricity from wind, solar and nuclear fuel produces zero carbon dioxide emissions at the point of generation.
The zero-carbon electricity purchased is supplied to the National Grid. Customers receive electricity via the National Grid, not directly from zero-carbon generators.
The table below summarises zero-carbon generation by company, demonstrating EDF generating 17%. The data supporting the table below and the % values are sourced from a mixture of industry settlement data and the UK government renewable obligation database.
| Company | Nuclear / onshore wind / offshore wind / solar / biomass / hydro TWh 2024 | % of total UK zero carbon electricity generated 2024 |
| EDF | 31.4 | 17.0% |
| Drax | 15.4 | 8.3% |
| RWE | 11.1 | 6.0% |
| Orsted | 10.5 | 5.7% |
| SSE | 8.0 | 4.3% |
| Centrica | 7.5 | 4.0% |
| Scottish Power | 7.3 | 3.9% |
| Greencoat | 5.5 | 3.0% |
| Other generators | 88.5 | 47.8% |

- Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's (DESNZ) latest Fuel Mix Disclosure Data Table states that Nuclear & Renewables produce zero Carbon dioxide emissions (NB this is footnoted as relating only to generator emissions in the operational phase and does not include emissions related to the fuel supply chain or maintenance activities).
- DESNZ Energy Trends 5.1 states that renewable energy includes wind, solar, hydro and bioenergy.
