Working to nurture the next generation

Whether you're an educator looking to inspire your students to find out more about nuclear power and low carbon energy, or a student wanting to explore a future career working in STEM subjects, this section of the website will give you resources, information and support.

At EDF we care passionately about engaging and working with teachers and educators to encourage young people to get involved with the STEM subjects that will inspire them to be the next generation's engineers and scientists. So we've set up educational and skills programmes to do this, as well as working alongside schools and colleges providing materials and resources to give children and young people experience and inspiration.

Our education and skills programmes

Inspire - for ages up to 16

Inspire is Hinkley Point C’s education programme. Through a range of innovative activities across Somerset and the wider South West region we are preparing young people to take advantage of the huge opportunities that the construction and operation of Hinkley Point C will bring.

Young HPC - for ages 16 to 21

If you are aged between 16 and 21, Young HPC has been designed to give you support, guidance and resources to help you take steps towards your dream career. If you don’t know what your dream career is yet, that’s no problem! Take the opportunity to find out what makes you tick and get suggestions for roles that might suit you.

At Hinkley Point C, our aim is to create 1,000 apprenticeships during construction. The wide range of skills required means there really is opportunity for everyone.

Once on-site, apprentices will be part of a creative, vibrant and supportive environment providing the best possible foundations for any new career.

Leaving school

Apprenticeships are at the forefront of our workforce development and skills needs and we want to provide the best possible access and experience for all apprentices working and learning as part of the project. The majority of apprenticeships created will be through our primary contract partners - such as Bouygues, Laing O’Rourke, Kier Bam, Alstom and Areva – who will specify exact requirements and commitments for each apprentice.

Our culture is inclusive and collaborative, meaning our apprentices will work alongside and socialise with a variety of people across our workforce. Experiencing our unique environment will ensure any apprentice has the best possible springboard to a successful career.
