Working to nurture the next generation

Whether you're an educator looking to inspire your students to find out more about nuclear power and low carbon energy, or a student wanting to explore a future career working in STEM subjects, this section of the website will give you resources, information and support.

At EDF Energy we care passionately about engaging and working with teachers and educators to encourage young people to get involved with the STEM subjects that will inspire them to be the next generation's engineers and scientists. So we've set up educational and skills programmes to do this, as well as working alongside schools and colleges providing materials and resources to give children and young people experience and inspiration.

Our education and skills programmes

Inspire - for ages up to 16

Inspire is Hinkley Point C’s education programme. Through a range of innovative activities across Somerset and the wider South West region we are preparing young people to take advantage of the huge opportunities that the construction and operation of Hinkley Point C will bring.

By working with our construction partners we are delivering education experiences to young people of all ages, encouraging them to explore the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics - known as STEM subjects. We hope that they will be inspired to enter one of the many STEM jobs that will be available during the construction of this nationally important project.

Young HPC - for ages 16 to 21

If you are aged between 16 and 21, Young HPC has been designed to give you support, guidance and resources to help you take steps towards your dream career. If you don’t know what your dream career is yet, that’s no problem! Take the opportunity to find out what makes you tick and get suggestions for roles that might suit you.

We have useful tools to help you build your CV, develop an understanding of interview techniques and introduce you to a variety of companies helping to build the new Hinkley Point C power station – one of the biggest construction projects in Europe.

Registering for Young HPC will put you first in line for skills experience days where you can meet the people helping to build the new power station. Once you have registered, you will be part of a unique pool of people and receive invitations to book spaces for these exclusive sessions.

Apprenticeships

At Hinkley Point C, our aspiration is to create 1,000 apprenticeships over the course of construction. The wide range of skills required to build the power station means there really is opportunity for everyone.

Apprenticeships are at the forefront of our workforce development and skills needs and we want to provide the best possible access and experience for all apprentices working and learning as part of the project.

Once on-site, apprentices will be part of a creative, vibrant and supportive environment providing the best possible foundations for any new career. Our apprentices will have face-to-face support at an on-site apprentice hub as well as digital access to relevant information, learning and care.

For teachers and schools

If you're a teacher or educator looking for resources and materials to help you prepare lessons or presentations for your students, you'll find lots of inspirational content here. There’s also information on how to book a school visit to Hinkley Point C or arrange for us to visit you.

If you want to visit us at one of our educational events or at a workshop we’re attending to discuss careers and further education, you’ll find details of those here too.

For students and parents

If you're preparing a report or presentation at school, or if you're just interested in how nuclear energy production works, and Hinkley Point C in particularly, there's a comprehensive set of facts and figures here.

And if you're leaving school soon, why not find out about our apprenticeships scheme.
