Flamanville 3 EPR Facilities, France
This virtual tour explores one of EDF group’s nuclear power stations, Flamanville 3. Here they are currently building a ‘third generation’ EPR reactor in order to anticipate and prepare for refurbishment of existing installations when the time comes.
What we're doing
We own and operate all eight of the UK's existing nuclear power stations and we plan to build three new ones at Hinkley Point C in Somerset, Sizewell C in Suffolk and Bradwell B in Essex. To provide a secure energy supply for the future, the UK needs a diverse and balanced energy mix. Since 2010, 26 power stations have closed, which equates to 20% of the UK’s generation capacity. By 2030, a further 35% of existing generation capacity will close down. Nuclear power stations are well placed to contribute to this mix, as they generate low-carbon electricity reliably.
EDF Energy is committed to helping secure our energy supplies for the future by investing in an energy mix that balances the needs of low-carbon emissions, security of supply, and affordability.
Nuclear safety is our overriding priority
The UK’s nuclear industry has an excellent safety record going back more than 50 years. Our nuclear power stations are built to the highest and most exacting international standards, and can withstand earthquakes, floods and fires. Independently regulated by the Office of Nuclear Regulation, we comply with some of the toughest nuclear regulations in the world.
