Facemasks donated to Scottish care provider

By EDF | Posted April 24, 2020

Three of EDF’s sites in Scotland have provided 3,000 face masks to one of the country’s largest care providers for use in their facilities.

The donation to CrossReach*, which provides social care services on behalf of the Church of Scotland, will help to ensure their staff and residents are protected during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Torness power station in East Lothian, Hunterston B power station in North Ayrshire and EDF’s office in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, have each given 1,000 masks. CrossReach has facilities across Scotland.

Rob Guyler, EDF’s Chief Financial Officer, said: “As part of the UK’s critical infrastructure we understand only too well the importance of keeping your workforce healthy at this time and for those working in frontline caring roles PPE is crucial.

“We want to be able to do our bit to support people in the community during these difficult times so we are happy to be able to make this donation.”

Elspeth McPheat, one of CrossReach’s care home managers, said: “It is amazing how kind and thoughtful people are being. It means so much to know that as social care workers you are loved and cared for by others when you are loving and caring for those in your care."

This is just one of the steps EDF is taking across the UK to support local communities during the pandemic. You can read about some of the other initiatives here.

CrossReach has launched a Covid-19 emergency appeal to support the charity. More information on how to help is available here.

*CrossReach is the operating name for the Social Care Council of the Church of Scotland.
