Heysham 2 powers back after statutory outage
Amid the coronavirus crisis, staff at Heysham 2 power station are playing their part in powering the UK and keeping the country’s vital services operating after reactor 8 returned to service following its planned maintenance shutdown.
In 2019 the community team at Heysham enjoyed meeting more than 5000 people at the sites’ Visitor Centre, partnering with many local organisations and supporting some great groups. Many of these partnerships are long term and we look forward to working with them during 2020 and beyond.
Sasha Merrick took the main award at EDF Energy’s apprentice graduation ceremony which saw all 45 of the company’s final year apprentices commended for their efforts during the four-year training programme by Brian Cowell, EDF Energy’s managing director.
Following some noise experienced in the area during the process to re-start one of our reactors at Heysham 2 power station after an unplanned shut down, Heysham 2 Station Director Mark Lees sent the folowing letter to members of the Heysham LCLC:
Mark Lees takes over as station director at Heysham 2 from John Munro, who has become one of EDF Energy’s chief nuclear officers taking a line management responsibility for four power stations: Heysham 2, Torness, Sizewell B and Dungeness B.
