Sizewell B employee scoops national accolade for weight loss

A Sizewell B employee has been named as a national Slimming World finalist after shedding more 13stones.

Peter Curd, 58, a materials controller in one of the power station’s stores rooms, decided to start slimming down after one of his annual health check-ups at work.

Sizewell B has a team of occupational specialists at the station providing support and guidance for staff on health matters to ensure a healthy workforce. Peter felt motivated to change his lifestyle after speaking with the Occupational Nurse at the power station. Some of Peter’s colleagues suggested he joined Slimming World to help shape his new healthy eating routine so he went along to the Loddon group, which is run by Debbie Blyth Clark.

Peter said: “I was worried about my health, my father had diabetes and when the occupational nurse at Sizewell B said she was worried about my weight at one of the annual health reviews I thought it was time to do something about it.

“When I first walked through the doors of my Slimming World group I was worried that, as a man, I’d be the ‘odd one out’. It was nothing like that though, everyone was very friendly and made a big effort to make me feel welcome. The support from the group and my colleagues has really kept me motivated to loose the weight and keep it off.”

Alison Crickmore, Human Resources Manager at EDF Energy’s Sizewell B power station said: “At EDF Energy we encourage staff to improve their own well-being through adopting healthier behaviours, both in and out of work. We are really proud of the incredible effort Peter has put in to adopting a healthy lifestyle – he is an inspiration to us all.”

Peter started his weight loss journey in January 2012 and since then has lost an astounding 13stones and 9.5lb’s. Peter says he feels like a different person and was delighted to scoop the ‘man of the year’ title three years in a row at the group before being named as a finalist in the national competition. Sky Sports presenter Charlie Webster congratulated Peter on his achievement at Slimming World head office in Derby.
