EDF Energy wants to inspire women to choose engineering
EDF Energy is looking for students thinking about a career in engineering to take part in an event to learn what the energy industry can offer.
Engineer your future, part of the STEMinism UK network, is a one day event run by TARGETjobs Events, offering 100 female engineering undergraduates insights into life as a working engineer. Students have opportunities to network with female role models from some of the biggest names in the sector including EDF Energy, Shell, Cisco, Microsoft, Caterpillar, National Grid and Transport for London.
The free event at the Shell Centre in London on Friday November 30 will provide interactive skill sessions, explore a range of engineering opportunities and learn from successful working women, why being a female in engineering can be a huge advantage in their future career.
Gwen Parry-Jones, EDF Energy Nuclear Generation, Safety & Technical Director, will be speaking at the event.
Gwen started off as a reactor physicist, later becoming plant manager at Sizewell B power station in Suffolk then station director at EDF Energy’s Heysham 1 power station in the North West.
She said: “EDF Energy is proud to be part of ‘Engineer your future’. It’s vital that we highlight what great prospects the energy industry has to offer to ambitious female engineers.
“We are recruiting apprentices, graduates and for students to join our industrial placement programme and we believe this is another fantastic platform to engage with exceptional women who are keen to start their career in an exciting engineering industry and who need a better understanding of what EDF Energy has to offer in a growing sector which is vital to the UK.“
EDF Energy is currently looking for its 2013 recruits with places available on the graduate and apprentice programme as well as paid year-long industrial placements.
