EDF Energy partners with Jobcentre Plus to help local people into employment
EDF Energy has signed an agreement with Jobcentre Plus to help Somerset people secure as many jobs as possible from the proposed new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C.
The new agreement will help in managing and advertising local job prospects as they arise and in matching skills and training with forthcoming opportunities.
Jobcentre Plus (JCP) has appointed Hinkley Point C Champions at each of its Somerset offices in Bridgwater, Taunton, Minehead, Wells/Frome and Yeovil. The Champions will provide a clear point of contact for people wishing to work at Hinkley and will promote opportunities as and when they occur.
EDF Energy staff have been working with the champions to provide CV workshops and mock interview sessions to help local people to further develop their employability skills. The feedback from Somerset people attending these courses has been very positive.
Whilst construction work at Hinkley Point C cannot begin until full planning consent is granted, the joined-up working with JCP has already been very successful in putting local people into work. By the end of July 44 people, all of them from Somerset, had been placed by the Hinkley Point C job brokerage.
Barbara Jones, HR Director for EDF Energy Nuclear New Build, said: "This partnership with Jobcentre Plus is one of a number of agreements we are putting in place with education and employment providers to enhance opportunities for people in Somerset."
Timothy Taylor-Blake, Wessex District Manager for Jobcentre Plus, added: "We're delighted to be working closely with EDF Energy to advise local people on potential job opportunities and to help them seek employment."
