Community update

By EDF | Posted August 20, 2018

Dear SSG Member,

Since I wrote to you at the beginning of July we have completed the programme of core inspections on Reactor 3 and are now assessing the results. We are making good progress with the safety case submission for returning Reactor 3 to service which remains on target.

In relation to Reactor 4, we have the option to either extend our operating case or carry out inspections while we have the equipment and resources available post Reactor 3 inspections.

We have decided to carry out normal graphite core inspections commencing 2nd October 2018 for 25 days on Reactor 4.

This decision gives us the opportunity to check our evaluations and predictions for Reactor 4 and yet again demonstrate that nuclear safety is the overriding priority in everything that we do.

We look forward to providing you with a more detailed update at the next SSG meeting on 6 September when we can share more detailed information about the Reactor 3 inspections and answer any questions you might have.

I hope this information is useful to you as a member of the Site Stakeholder Group.

Should you wish to ask any questions please feel free to ring the Station on 01294 826000 and ask for our Communications Officer, Nikki Thomson.

Colin Weir

Station Director
