What is an Amazon Echo? Who is Alexa?

All Amazon Echo devices(1) are voice-controlled speakers designed entirely around voice – it's always ready, hands-free and fast. Alexa is the brain behind Echo – just ask Alexa to play music, read the news, set alarms, answer questions, check sports scores – even review your energy account. This can all be done from across a room, thanks to Echo's far-field voice control functionality.

Alexa skills are capabilities like smartphone or tablet apps, enabling customers to interact with Echo devices in a more intuitive way using your voice. When you've got your Amazon Echo device(1) and have downloaded the Alexa app, it'll be time to activate EDF Energy's skill. Alexa will then answer questions about your energy account.

With your EDF Energy skill, you'll be able to ask Alexa to check your energy account balance and next payment date, submit a meter reading and when your tariff is due to end. It connects to your MyAccount to give you accurate answers. This should make it easier to stay on top of your energy usage – and understand it better.

Combine with our smart thermostat for greater control

We want to make it easy for our customers to control their heating and the good news is that Amazon Echo is compatible with the Netatmo smart thermostat. Customers will be able to control their home’s temperature directly from their smartphones, tablets or computers when they’re out and about. And just by asking Alexa when they’re at home.
