Hinkley Point C and Brean
Hinkley Point C will be using the Brean Sands Holiday Park to house around 900 workers who are building the new power station. The move follows discussions with the local community, councillors and business groups which began in autumn 2022.
Why Brean Sands Holiday Park?
As the workforce at Hinkley Point C increases, Brean Sands Holiday Park was the only available site in the local area with the capacity and facilities to accommodate members of the workforce during peak construction. The future of the site had been uncertain and its facilities needed modernisation. Hinkley Point C’s £2 million investment will leave the site in better condition for future holiday use. Its chalet accommodation means workers can bring their families to stay and make use of the beach and local leisure attractions – a great morale booster for people working away from home.
Tourism
Tourism and hospitality businesses are facing a nationwide challenge with the cost-of-living crisis, so it’s good to hear that many businesses in Brean are thriving and the area remains a great destination for holiday fun and relaxation.
We accept that some businesses could be affected by our use of the holiday park during the summer season. To help, we’re stepping in with business support grants and we’re funding marketing campaigns to bring new visitors to the area. Businesses wanting to make use of the direct support available can apply via a dedicated webpage.
Year-Round Benefits
Our use of Pontins will bring benefits to the local economy for 12 months a year, beyond the current few months of the holiday season. The park will provide more than 80 secure, year-round jobs in the community and workers will spend millions of pounds in the local economy – rain or shine, winter and summer.
People from Brean, Berrow and Burnham-on-Sea will also benefit. Community groups have access to Hinkley Point C’s £20 million community fund. More than £200,000 has already been provided to local community schemes in the area - from the Nornen Community Theatre project in Berrow to improved sports facilities and an upgraded theatre in Burnham.

We take community safety seriously and have high expectations for worker behaviour. The Hinkley Police Team and a dedicated Community Safety Officer are available at all times to manage and deal with any reports of poor behaviour.

Working with Somerset Council, we will continue to work with the Community and local businesses throughout our use of the Pontins site.
We are also holding informal drop-in sessions for businesses and the community so we can listen and understand any concerns as well as answering questions.
