Expert energy analysis and insight for UK businesses.
Did you miss our webinar on the direction of energy in 2020?
There’s been a lot of change in energy policy and regulations this year. Just look at this list of schemes that have started, stopped or been consulted on:
Targeted Charging Review. Capacity Market. Renewable Obligation. Feed in Tariff. Smart Export Guarantee. Market Making Obligation. Carbon Reduction Commitment. Streamlined Energy Carbon Reporting. Non-domestic building regulations. Industrial Energy Transformation Fund.
And that’s just the business as usual list. With every political party talking about changes they’ll introduce to deliver Net Zero 2050, we don’t think the pace of change is going to ease up in 2020.
But don’t worry.
In less than an hour, EDF Energy’s Director of Energy Policy and Regulation, Angela Hepworth, will help you make sense of the big changes in the UK’s energy policy and regulation landscape to help you plot your path to success in the year ahead.
This is the third year in which Angela has hosted an end of year webinar that takes stock of changes in the UK’s energy policy and regulations over the past year, and looks ahead to changes we expect to see in the coming year. And this year especially energy has risen in our public and political consciousness noticeably.
There’s much greater awareness of the fact we’re facing a climate change emergency, and that urgent action is needed. People are taking to the streets regularly to express their views on climate change and energy issues. They want to make sure leaders do something meaningful on climate change. So it should be no surprise that both governments and businesses are being scrutinized for how well their actions match their stated goals.
The UK Government has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, and in the current election, energy features prominently in the manifestos and campaign activity of all the major parties.
It’s a fascinating time to work in energy. But at the same time, it’s also harder to keep up with the pace of change. Which is why we think it’s important to reflect on what’s happened over the past year and look ahead at how energy policy and regulation is developing.
