Budget Direct Debit: why your first payments might look different
We can give you the answer for your type of account, once we know what your account number starts with. You can find your account number in MyAccount, and on your EDF bills, emails and letters.
My account number starts with '67'
Why your first payments might look different
Normally, your Budget Direct Debit payments are the same each month, and they come out on the same day of the month.
We'll let you know if your first few payments are going to look a little different. There are a few reasons why this can happen – have a look below.
1. We took your payment just after your preferred payment date
This happens if your preferred payment date falls on a weeked or bank holiday. We take your payment as close to your chosen day of the month as we can.
2. We took your payment on a different day of the month
Sometimes we can't take you first payment on your preferred payment date because of the notice we need to give to your bank. So we take your payment as close to your chosen day as we can.
All other payments will come out of your bank on your preferred payment date (or soon after).
3. We took a payment for the total amount on your last bill
This can happen if you chose to pay your outstanding balance by Direct Debit when you changed the way you pay to Direct Debit.
4. We took a payment for just one fuel
This can happen when you first join EDF. Sometimes we start supplying your electricity before your gas (or vice versa). We can only take a payment for the fuel we're supplying at the time.
When the second fuel comes on board, this might also come out of your bank separately.
Once your account is fully up and running, your electricity and gas payments will come out of your bank together – on your preferred payment date (or soon after).
5. We took more than one payment in a single calendar month
Sometimes we can't take your first payment on your preferred payment date because of the notice we need to give to your bank. So we take your payment as close to your chosen day as we can.
This can bump your first payment into the next calendar month, and so your second payment will come out in the same month.
