We were the first UK company to become a Premier Partner of the London 2012 bid team and we are determined to do what we can to help ensure that the bid is a success.
As a Premier Partner, we made an initial sponsorship donation of £1 million. In addition to that, we have spent around £2 million in ongoing support and we have worked with the bid team, providing technical support and expertise to the final bid proposal.
We have also been touring London, the South and the East of England with our London 2012 Leap Counter asking people to 'Leap for London' to add their support to the bid. Support has been fantastic. To date over 600,000 people have leapt for London and on the 15th of December we had ten Lords a-leaping, with ten Members of the House of Lords showing their support for the bid.
Support within EDF Energy has also been fantastic. In December 2004, Michelle Spittle from EDF Energy Contracting in Tunbridge became the 1,000th member of staff to sign up as a London 2012 'Ambassador'. The Ambassadors have been active in their support for the bid, often touring with the Leap Counter.
