Can I change my tariff without exit fees?

If you have 49 days or less left on your contract, then yes, you can change your energy tariff without paying exit fees. However, if you choose to leave your tariff earlier, you'll need to check your contract to see if you'll have to pay exit fees.

When can I change my energy tariff?

If you're on a standard variable energy tariff, you can change anytime as you're not locked into a contract. Most other types of energy deals come with a contract, so you'll need to check what deal you're on and whether it comes with a contract. You can leave a contract at anytime, but you may have to pay early exit fees. If you've 49 days or less left on your contract, you should be able to leave without paying any exit fee.

How long does it take to renew my energy tariff?

It should take around five working days to renew your energy tariff. You'll start paying for energy you use with your new energy provider once the switch is complete. A 14-day cooling off period should be available, so you can change your mind if you want to cancel your switch.

Can I switch my energy tariff if I'm already an existing customer?

You can switch your energy tariff as an existing customer, even with the same supplier. You typically do this by logging into your online account and finding a new tariff that suits your needs. In theory, you can switch your electricity and gas supplier whenever you'd like, and it's best to check for better deals every 12 months or so. Before you go ahead, check if your current tariff has any exit fees and how much they are.

What happens if I don't renew my tariff?

If you don't renew your energy tariff, you'll most likely be moved onto a standard variable tariff (SVR), this is often more expensive. It's a good idea to review your energy usage and compare energy deals available before your current deal ends You can often switch to a new deal with a better price or more competitive terms within a 49-day window before your current tariff ends This stops you being placed on a more expensive SVR and potentially avoid paying an early exit fee

Fixed tariff prices remain the same for the duration of the tariff and are not covered by the energy price cap.

With Simply Tracker Extra Jun27, we guarantee to reduce the standing charge by applying a daily discount of 13.70p (inc VAT) for both electricity and gas.

Over a year that's £50.01 off the electricity standing charge and £50.01 off the gas standing charge. A total of £100.02. This isn’t a one‑off payment – and because standing charges apply every day, your discount is guaranteed for the duration of the tariff.
Standing charges are the fixed daily charges that cover the cost of supplying energy to your home. They can rise or fall with the price cap, and they apply even if you don’t use any energy.
The discounted standing charge applied is the same across all regions and payment methods. Customers on traditional (non-smart) prepayment meters will need to move to smart Pay-As-You-Go to get this tariff. The discounted standing charge applies no matter how much energy you use.
Every three months, in January, April, July and October, the price cap level can increase or decrease. It’s reviewed and updated by Ofgem. Our Standard (Variable) prices are based on the energy price cap. Our fixed tariff prices remain the same for the duration of the tariff and are not covered by the energy price cap.
This tariff is backed yearly by 100% zero carbon nuclear electricity as standard. The UK fuel mix disclosure information published by the government (DESNZ) recognises electricity generated from wind, solar and nuclear produces zero carbon dioxide emissions at the point of generation.
