EDF expands smart charging to more EV drivers

Posted December 01, 2025
  • EDF opens Smart Charging to myenergi zappi and Hypervolt EV charger owners, giving them extra off-peak charging for their home and car.
  • Customers on GoElectric and using Smart Charging can save up to £555 a year
  • From 21 November to 19 December, Smart Charging customers get an extra £10 credit, on top of their usual £5 monthly reward.

EDF is expanding its Smart Charging for myenergi zappi and Hypervolt customers – to give electric vehicle (EV) drivers with these chargers more ways to save.

EV drivers with myenergyi zappi or Hypervolt chargers are now able to access EDF’s Smart Charging, a bolt-on to its market-leading EV tariffs, giving them access to more off-peak electricity rates, by letting EDF automatically[i] charge their car when electricity is cheapest and more efficient.

To celebrate, EDF is rewarding its Smart Charging customers with an extra £10 credit on their EDF bill this December – on top of the usual £5 monthly reward[ii]. This offer runs from 21 November to 19 December 2025.

Available to customers on GoElectric, or the EVolve tracker tariff, Smart Charging – powered by Kraken – provides customers with off-peak rates for both their home and car beyond the standard off-peak window (12am – 5am). When combined with GoElectric, Smart Charging customers can save up to £555 a year against Standard Variable rates[iii].

We’re committed to making EV ownership as simple and rewarding as possible,” said Rich Hughes, Director of Retail. “By integrating with trusted brands like myenergi zappi and Hypervolt, we’re giving even more drivers access to further benefits of EV driving. Not only does EDF already have the cheapest EV tariff with GoElectric, customers can combine Smart Charging, saving them more money, reducing carbon emissions, and contributing to an electric BritainAnd if your car or charger isn’t currently supported, register your interest and we’ll contact you as soon as it is.”

More than 1,000 EV drivers have joined EDF’s Smart Charging tariff bolt-on since it was launched in May, demonstrating growing demand for smarter, greener solutions.

Customers can set their charging preferences quickly and easily through MyAccount or the EDF app. Drivers will receive a personalised daily charging schedule, letting them know when their off-peak hours will be, so they can plug in and let EDF take control, ensuring charging happens at the best times for cost and carbon savings.

[i] Customers set the schedule and keep their EV plugged in when they’re not using it. EDF will charge it automatically when electricity is at its cheapest. Customers will always pay their off-peak rates when their EV charges, no matter what time of the day it is. If their EV is charging, they’ll be charged the off-peak rates for electricity in their home too.

[iii] £280 saving compares EDF’s GoElectric Jan27 tariff cost at £1,935 a year based on a dual fuel customer using total electricity consumption of 4,650 kWh (2,700kWh peak rates and 1,950 kWh off-peak rates) and Ofgem typical gas consumption of 11,500 kWh. This is compared to a dual fuel Standard Variable customer (Electricity Economy 7 meter adjusted for equivalent electricity use) which will cost £2215 a year based on October 2025 energy price cap rates. This assumes your car is charged during off-peak hours at the GoElectric off-peak rate. We use a national average of Direct Debit regional prices and actual savings may apply depending on usage and charging patterns.
To get up to the £275 Smart Charging bolt-on saving, annual savings assume 3,150kWh charging off-peak and a £5/month credit. Smart Charging offers an extra 1,200 kWh of off-peak charging. The total off-peak charging is 3,150 kWh with EDF's GoElectric tariff (GoElectric's off-peak rates at 1,950 kWh). Prices correct as of 25 September 2025.
