EDF and Citizens Advice deliver record year of support, securing more than £10 million for customers
- More than £10 million secured for customers through debt write-offs, income maximisation and energy-saving support
- £2.35 million of debt written off and almost £7.85 million in additional income unlocked for households facing financial hardship
- Partnership further delivers energy efficiency advice to over 7,000 customers
EDF and Citizens Advice have helped customers secure more than £10 million in financial benefits over the past year through a range of financial support, income maximisation and energy-saving advice making it the partnership's most successful year since it began 17 years ago.
Through independent advice and practical support, the partnership has helped thousands of customers improve their financial wellbeing and gain greater control over their household finances.
Managing debt remained a key focus of the partnership over the last year. Through the partnership, Citizens Advice Plymouth supported EDF customers across the country who were carrying more than £4 million of debt, including significant levels of fuel debt.
A total of £2.35 million was written off by helping customers access Debt Relief Orders, bankruptcy arrangements and EDF's Customer Support Fund. Almost 5,000 more customers received debt advice, giving them the tools they needed to manage repayments and take positive steps towards a more secure financial future.
The impact of the partnership can be seen in experiences of customers like Lorraine. Facing rising household costs and struggling with debt, Citizens Advice secured more than £6,900 in debt write-offs, including council tax arrears and TV Licensing fines, while also helping to put a sustainable plan in place to manage ongoing energy costs with EDF.
Lorraine said: "A huge weight has been lifted. I'm now sleeping better and feel able to think clearly about my next steps, including engaging with the ongoing support I have."
The partnership has helped customers secure almost £7.85 million in additional income through benefit entitlement checks and claims support. For many households, this extra income has provided vital financial stability and helped them better manage the rising cost of living.

“Through our partnership with Citizens Advice, we're able to provide joined-up help that addresses those challenges together, giving customers practical solutions that can make a lasting difference to their finances and wellbeing."
Alongside financial support, more than 7,300 customers received energy efficiency advice, resulting in estimated annual savings of more than £2.19 million. By helping customers reduce energy use and lower their bills, the partnership is delivering immediate financial benefits while encouraging lasting behaviour change.
