- The company is also launching the cheapest energy-only 12-month tariff among major suppliers, priced at £1,620 for an average dual fuel customer paying by direct debit - £100 cheaper than both the current price cap (£1,720).
EDF is helping families beat the summer holiday energy drain by offering six hours of free electricity to customers on Sunday 10th August, as part of its popular Sunday Saver scheme.
From 2pm to 8pm, EDF customers can enjoy free electricity to power up their summer fun, whether that’s baking sweet treats, having a dance party, or settling in for a family movie marathon.
To take part, customers must register their interest in EDF’s next Sunday Saver challenge by 11:59pm on 9th August. Those who took part in the June challenge or registered for the 12th July free electricity event will automatically be included and don’t need to do anything.
Sunday Saver rewards customers who shift their electricity use away from weekday peak hours (4pm–7pm), helping them save money and reduce demand on the grid. Participants can earn between four and 16 hours of free electricity each week, depending on how much they shift.
This summer giveaway follows the success of previous Free Electricity Day events, including free electricity on Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day and in July to watch the tennis. The provider has already given out over 9.3 million kWh of free electricity (5.4 million hours) as part of it’s Sunday Saver scheme, where customers have collectively saved approximately £2.33 million* on their energy bills[i].
And, to add to the feel-good feeling, the energy supplier has also launched the cheapest energy-only fixed deal among major suppliers. Simply Fixed Aug26v5 12-month tariff is priced at £1,620 for an average dual fuel customer paying by direct debit, £100 cheaper than both the current price cap (£1,720) and predicted winter prices. The tariff is available to new and existing customers with exit fees at £25 per fuel.
"We know the school holidays can be full-on, so we’re excited to give families a little energy boost on us," said Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF. "Customers will have six hours of free electricity to power their summer fun, whether it’s a family bake off, karaoke session or movie marathon, all while tackling the never-ending laundry pile.
“And by joining the next Sunday Saver challenge, those who shift their energy use outside peak times could earn up to 16 hours of free electricity – and when combined with our new tariff, customers can save even more cash on their bills.”
EDF customers will also get peace of mind, with the energy company recently earning five-star status on TrustPilot after its ratings jumped from a 4.2 in 2023 to a 4.8-star rating.
For more information and to register interest for the next Sunday Saver challenge, please visit EDF's free electricity page, and customers will be notified when it’s time to sign up. The hours of free electricity on 10th August will be credited to customers’ accounts around a week after the event.
To take part, households must have a working smart meter for their electricity supply and be opted into half-hourly meter reads[ii].
