EDF launches cheapest electric vehicle tariff available to all EV drivers
21st June 2024: EDF has launched the cheapest EV tariff on the market for drivers with any EV or charger[i] saving customers £200 a year[ii], whilst promising that they will never pay more than the Ofgem price cap.
EDF’s EVolve Sep25 electricity tariff, priced at £1,067[iii], gives customers five hours of off-peak electricity overnight for both their home and car. The variable tariff offers the same electricity day rate as standard variable and an off-peak rate priced 10p lower than the Standard Variable Direct Debit price cap rate[iv] between 12-5am daily.
Unlike some other EV tariffs on the market, the EVolve tariff is available to motorists with any make or model of electric vehicle or charger. For an average motorist driving 7,000 miles a year, it will cost £247 a year to charge with the EVolve tariff compared to £1,292 for petrol[v].
Offering a total of 35 hours of off-peak energy per week, the 100% zero carbon[vi] tracker tariff is also available for dual-fuel customers, who would pay £1,812[vii] when combined with the Standard Variable gas price cap rate.
"As Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity, we want to make it as easy as possible for customers to drive electric and help cut Britain’s carbon emissions with us.
“By charging up with our new tariff, drivers can reduce their CO2 emissions from their vehicle to zero, as well as saving £200 a year on their bills, whatever the make or model of their EV.” said Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF.
“Some EV tariffs negatively impact customers based on their daytime home usage and they can end up worse off. EVolve is a penalty-free EV tariff that benefits customers who charge off-peak, with the peace of mind of no premium peak prices during the day.”
EDF’s price forecast service published on EDF’s website every Tuesday provides customers with up-to-date price cap predictions for the year ahead, helping them stay informed.
Through its partnerships with Drive Electric and Pod Point, EDF has got everything a driver will need to switch to electric motoring, with access to a range of electric vehicle offerings from chargers for home, electric vehicle leasing, and different tariff options to suit their lifestyle.
To be eligible for EVolve Sep25, customers are required to have a smart meter. To sign up or for further information about our EV offering, please visit: www.edfenergy.com/electric-cars/tariffs
Continuing its commitment to Net Zero and driving electric, EDF is proud to be the main sponsor for the fourth consecutive year of the London to Brighton Electric Vehicle rally, taking place tomorrow, Saturday 22nd June 2024. The event celebrates the strides made in electric mobility and promotes sustainable and eco-friendly transportation and technology.
In this year’s event, 100 cutting-edge electric vehicles will depart Westminster to drive the 59-mile challenge to the EVillage on Brighton’s Madeira Drive, where the public can test drive the latest electric vehicles, as well as explore advancements in heat pumps, solar panels, and more.

[ii] Save £200 a year based on an EV customer with an annual charging consumption of 2,000 kWh, charging in the Off peak hours, paying by Direct Debit on Evolve compared to a customer on Standard Variable with a Standard Electricity meter.
[iii] Our Evolve Sep25 tariff will cost £1,067 a year* based on a single fuel customer using total electricity consumption of 4,676 kWh (2,700kWh at peak rates and 1,976 kWh at off-peak rates). The calculations assume your car is charged during the off-peak hours which are charged at a lower rate. We use a national average of DD regional prices. Correct as of 18 June 2024.
EVolve Sep25 is a variable tariff and the rates will change with the energy price cap. The projection assumes the July 2024 (1 July to 30 September 2024) rates do not change over a full year. EVolve Sep 25 is a single fuel Electricity tariff, this projection is Dual Fuel and assumes that it is paired with Gas Standard Variable. Current predictions suggest the price cap could increase in October. We publish our prediction of future cap prices here.
[iv] For day time usage – this tariff is variable price and will be the same as the Standard Variable Direct Debit price cap level for the duration of the term. For off peak usage – this tariff is variable price and will be 10p (inc VAT) lower than Standard Variable Direct Debit price cap rate for the duration of the term.
[v] Based on 7000 miles driven. As Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity, we are investing more than £100 million weekly in Britain’s electricity infrastructure. We supply millions of customers with electricity and help homes and businesses switch to electricity for heating, transport and industrial processes.
We operate five nuclear power stations and more than 35 onshore wind farms and three offshore wind farms. Since 2009, EDF has invested almost £9 billion in the nuclear fleet to improve reliability and extend station lifetimes. The five generating stations currently supply about 12% of the UK’s electricity demand.
EDF is building the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C. We are a minority investor (12.5%) in and major supplier to a replica plant at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C will provide low carbon electricity to meet 14% of UK demand and power around 12 million homes.
