Insulating your loft and cavity walls could save you around £200* a year on your energy bills – and you could qualify for free insulation or a grant to cover the full costs.**
The Energy Saving Trust has stated that ‘without insulation you could be losing as much as 15% of your heating costs through your roof. ’ ^^
Loft insulation top-up ensures that you have the necessary depth of insulation (approx. 270mm) to gain the maximum benefit in terms of heat loss and CO2 reduction.
How it works
Loft insulation works like a blanket and stops rising heat escaping through your roof.
How it is installed
Insulation is simply laid over the floor of the loft – between and then over the joists if they are visible. EDF Energy is currently offering loft insulation to homeowners and private tenants for £199.**
You may be eligible to receive a grant for the full amount if you are either aged 70 or over or on one of the following income or disability related benefits:
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (which must include constant attendance allowance)
- War Disablement Pension (which must include the mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance)
- Pension Credit

You could be losing up to 33% of your heat through your walls.^^ By installing insulation in your home you could substantially reduce your heating bills every year, and it won't cost you a penny if you are aged 70 or over or receive qualifying benefits.
How it works
By filling the gap between the two walls with insulating material, heat loss is reduced considerably. This will result in a more even temperature around your home and also help to prevent condensation.
How it is installed
Cavity wall insulation is injected into the cavity between the outer and inner walls from the outside of your home. The process takes between two and three hours for a typical three bedroom semi-detached house. EDF Energy is currently offering cavity wall insulation to homeowners and private tenants for £199.**

*This is a cost saving estimated by the Energy Saving Trust (EST) based on research carried out on their behalf in 2005 by the Building Research Establishment; and is based on insulating a 3 bedroom semi-detached home with gas central heating and no current insulation. The EST savings calculation assumes a gas price of 2.51p/kWh with gas consumption of 18,000 kWh per annum (prior to installing the insulation measures). The actual savings that will be achieved will vary depending on type, age, main heating fuel of your home or if you choose to take increased warmth following installation of the measures.
**This offer is available for all heating fuel types. These prices and the free insulation offer apply to standard properties with up to 4 bedrooms. Additional costs will apply to large /non standard properties. You will be advised of any extra costs for additional areas at the time of survey which should be based on a standard rate of £5.00 per m2 inc. VAT. All boarded walkways in lofts are charged extra. If you receive income or disability related benefits, or are aged 70 or over, you may qualify for work to be carried out free of charge. Offer is subject to a site survey. All information is correct at time of going to print, but subject to change
