Who should I contact if I don't receive my gift card?

Why should students track energy usage?
It's really good to stay on top of your energy spend so you don't get bills that are suddenly larger than your budget. Our free Energy Hub tool is designed to help our customers see how much energy they're using at different times of the day to help save cash and carbon where possible.
Do students need to pay energy bills in student accommodation?
It depends on your accommodation contract - if you have an "all-inclusive" contract then your bills are most likely included. However, do check you won't get charged extra if you're using what may be considered as an excessive amount of energy.
If you're renting student accommodation privately, check your contract to understand what your rent covers. If it doesn't cover utilities, for example, gas, electricity and water - this means you'll need to pay for these on top of your rent.
How do students pay for gas and electricity?
It really varies! If you're renting by yourself you'll be in charge of paying the bills - and how you pay depends on what type of meter your accommodation has. For example, is it a smart meter and you can pay by Direct Debit each month, or do you have a Pay As You Go meter? This type of meter allows you to choose when you "top up" the meter and how much you spend each time.
Or, do you live with flatmates? In which case you may want to nominate one person to be named on the bill who is in charge of making sure the bill is paid each month, with everyone else making sure to give their energy spend share to them each month.
Some student flatmates create a "kitty" - this is usually a shared bank account where you all put in the same amount of money each month to cover the shared utility bills.
If you'd like a bit more advice we recommend reading our guide to student bills.
Can students switch energy suppliers in student houses?
If you're in charge of paying your energy bill, then yes - you can switch energy supplier.
What type of energy tariff should I choose?
If you're not sure what energy tariff is best for you, we recommend you look at our price predictions to help you better understand how much energy may cost you in the next year. You may also want to compare energy deals, or read how fixed priced energy may be a good option if you're looking to stick to a monthly budget. If you've got an electric vehicle, and you're looking for the best student energy deal, then an EV tariff may be your best option.
