  • EDF is the only supplier offering customers free electricity on four Sundays over the next month
  • Customers can earn up to 64 hours of free electricity by shifting their electricity use during the week
  • Since Sunday Saver launched in 2024, EDF customers have saved a total of £6.6 million of their bills
  • Customers who took part in all eight challenges throughout 2025 earned over 260 hours of free electricity and saved £96 off their bills.

EDF’s popular Sunday Saver challenge is continuing throughout April, offering customers the opportunity to earn up to 64 hours of free electricity. This initiative gives households a simple way to cut their bills, saving almost £100 a year by shifting their electricity use.

‘Sunday Saver’ enables eligible customers to earn free electricity on Sundays by shifting their electricity use away from peak hours during the week (4pm – 7pm). The more electricity customers shift, the more free electricity they can earn the following Sunday, with between four and 16 hours on offer.

EDF is the only energy provider offering four Sundays of free electricity over the next month, so customers can save cash on their bills and make the most of their weekends.

Customers have earned over 20.5 million free hours of electricity with Sunday Saver

On average, ‘Sunday Savers’ earn 18 hours of free electricity per month. The most dedicated customers who took part in all eight challenges throughout 2025 earned an average of 266 hours and £96 bill credits across the year.

Since the start of the Sunday Saver challenge in 2024, participants have earned over 20.5 million hours of free electricity, equating to £6.6 million in bill savings.1

Joe Souto, Director of Retail at EDF, said: “With the energy price cap coming down in April, Sunday Saver continues to give customers a simple, practical way to cut costs and save even more when they need it most. If customers commit to every Sunday Saver challenge and flex their energy use, they could achieve an average of 266 hours of free electricity on Sundays, and £96 on their annual energy bills.

“Households can track their usage through Energy Hub, and spot opportunities to save, reducing their carbon footprint at the same time. It’s a straightforward way to ease pressure on bills while supporting a more sustainable electricity grid.”

Customers can sign up until Sunday 5th April

Customers can sign-up for the April challenge from now until Sunday 5th April at 11.59pm, with the challenge starting on Monday 6th April. Participants can use their earned free electricity on Sunday 19th and 26th April, and 3rd and 10th May.

To take part, customers will need a working smart meter for their electricity supply that is sending EDF readings every 30 minutes2. Progress can be tracked on Energy Hub via MyAccount, where users can access a personalised view of their household’s energy use.

Customers can learn more about the Sunday Saver challenge on our website and sign up via MyAccount.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

How can customers shift their energy usage?

Some ways customers can shift their electricity usage away from peak times during the week include:

  • Put the dishwasher on at night or breakfast time instead
  • Avoid using the washing machine and tumble dryer
  • Unplug devices and chargers and use battery power instead
  • Put aside gaming consoles and try something new as a family

How much free electricity can customers earn?

Customers can earn up to 16 hours of free electricity each week. A 5% reduction in peak consumption would earn four hours of free electricity, a 20% reduction earns eight hours, 35% earns twelve hours and, for the super savers, using 50% less earns 16 hours of free electricity on a Sunday.

1 Based on Sunday Saver data from Sept – December 2024, March – Jun 2025 and September 2025 - March 2026 and free electricity days on 25th December 2024, 14th February 2025, 12th July 2025, 10th August 2025 and 25th December 2025. 20,890,420 free hours × £0.30 per kWh (average kWh cost) * 1.05 (VAT) = (roughly) £6,604,000
