Big Carl, the world’s largest crane, has completed its biggest ever lift at Hinkley Point C. The super-crane lifted a total weight of 575 tonnes to install the first of three massive prefabricated steel rings which form the reinforced cylinder around the nuclear reactor.

Over £11 million has now been awarded to initiatives in Somerset since the Hinkley Point C project’s range of community funds were launched in 2012.

Another key milestone has been achieved at Hinkley Point C, with the completion of the first of three off-shore tunnels needed for the power station’s cooling water system.

In 2020 huge efforts to make the site safe for workers and the community have allowed construction to continue. In the latest pictures of the project, you can see what’s been achieved.
