What have wood chips, olive cake, and coppice got to do with electricity? Everything, when it comes to co-firing our coal-fired power stations. They are all biomass fuels and are just one of the ways we are providing energy from sustainable sources to our customers.
Supply and demand
Currently demand for renewable energy far outweighs supply. In fact renewable energy only accounts for 4% of the UK’s electricity supply. There's still some way to go to meet the Government’s target of 10% by 2010
Green Fund for renewable projects
That’s why we set up our Green Fund to help fund small scale renewable generation projects. And why we’re forming partnerships with real strategic value, such as with Marine Current Turbines Ltd – they’re using technology to harness the energy potential of underwater currents. Ideas such as these will ultimately assure us of a sustainable future.
