By law (Gas Safety Management regulations 1996) every site that consumes above 732,000kWh is required to keep their supplier updated with their emergency contact details. Should there be an emergency in that area, the contact is obliged to ensure that all gas appliances are switched off within 4 hours of being requested to do so, or face receiving a criminal conviction.
