Energy saving light bulbs can use up to 80% less electricity than a standard bulb, while still producing the same amount of light.

How they work

The most widely used low energy light bulbs are known as Compact Florescent Lamps (CFLs). They work on the same principle as a fluorescent lamp. Unlike normal bulbs, which use a filament, CFLs give off light when mixtures of gases are exposed to ultraviolet light.

How they’re installed

They fit into your existing lamp holder in the same way as a conventional light bulb. You can now also buy low energy light fittings, which will only take low energy light bulbs.
