Helping households save: EDF continues free ‘Sunday Saver’ electricity in February

Posted January 26, 2026
  • EDF is the only supplier offering customers free electricity on four Sundays over the next month
  • Sunday Saver has delivered £5.2m in bill savings for over 260,000 customers

EDF is continuing to offer customers free electricity on Sundays in return for them reducing their weekday peak consumption throughout February with its ‘Sunday Saver’ challenge.

Customers are challenged to shift their electricity use away from weekday peak hours each week (4pm – 7pm) in February, to earn between four and 16 hours of free electricity the following Sunday.

EDF is the only energy provider offering four Sundays of free electricity over the next month, so customers can save cash on their bills and make the most of their weekends.

Customers have earned over 17 million free hours of electricity with Sunday Saver

EDF delivered a festive boost to households last month, offering a free electricity day to customers who signed up to the Sunday Saver challenge. More than 100,000 customers benefitted from eight hours of free electricity to power their Christmas cooking and family gatherings, with EDF giving away a total of 910,536 free hours of electricity to households.

Since the challenge began in 2024, more than 260,000 customers have benefitted from Sunday Saver, earning more than 17.5million free hours of electricity, with £5.2million being credited onto Brits’ billsi so far.

In 2025, the Southeast of England had the top Sunday Savers, with customers earning over 1 million free hours of electricity in total - an average of 25 hours of free electricity a month per customer.

Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has earned over 680 free hours on Sundays since participating. Ms Shields said: “The Sunday Saver challenge is brilliant - and has helped us with the cost of living which is getting more expensive by the day. We switch off everything we can between 4–7pm, leaving cooking and showers until after this time. During those hours, we use a battery-powered light and play board games together, which has brought us closer as a family. We use the free electricity we've earned for cleaning, meal prep and laundry on Sunday, which is helpful.”

Jon Perks, Sales & Marketing Director at EDF, commented: “With winter bills at their highest, Sunday Saver continues to give customers a simple, practical way to cut costs when they need it most.

“Households can track their usage through our Energy Hub, and spot opportunities to save electricity across their home, reducing their carbon footprint at the same time. It’s a straightforward way to ease pressure on bills while supporting a more sustainable electricity grid.”

Customers can sign up until Sunday 1st February

Customers can sign-up for the February challenge from now until Sunday 1st February at 11.59pm, with the challenge starting on Monday 2nd February. Participants can use their earned free electricity on Sunday 15th and 22nd February, and 1st and 8th March.

To take part, customers will need a working smart meter for their electricity supply that is sending EDF readings every 30 minutesii

Progress can be tracked on Energy Hub via MyAccount, where users can access a personalised view of their household’s energy use.
