EDF's free electricity offer returns in October
EDF’s Sunday Saver Challenge will return in October, giving customers the opportunity to earn free electricity on Sundays over the next month.
‘Sunday Saver’ rewards eligible customers who shift their electricity usage away from weekday peak hours (4pm–7pm). The more energy they move to off-peak times, the more free electricity they can unlock the following Sunday - ranging from four to a maximum of 16 hours. EDF is the only supplier offering four Sundays worth of free electricity.
Since the challenge began last September, the North East of England has emerged as the region that flexed their usage most, with 89.39% of customers successfully earning up to 16 hours of free electricity, closely followed by the Midlands at 88.76% and Scotland at 88.45%.i
In London, whilst the capital’s Sunday Savers didn’t achieve the flexible feats of their Northern and Scottish counterparts, an impressive 86.83% of customers still achieved free electricity.
Across all regions of the UK, 88% of participants who have taken part have received at least four free hours, with over £2.73 million being credited on customers’ bills since the scheme began.
“With the new price cap level coming into effect seeing the average annual energy bill rising by 2% from 1st October we’re continuing to provide great value through our Sunday Saver challenge”, said Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF.
“It’s fantastic to see how many customers are earning up to 16 hours of free electricity, especially in regions like the North East of England and Scotland. We’re excited to give even more customers the chance to save money and enjoy doing the things they love on a Sunday this October.”
Registration is now open and will close on Sunday 12th October 11:59pm, ahead of the challenge starting on Monday 13th October. The Sundays where customers will be able to use their earned free electricity will be 19th and 26th October, 2nd November and 9th November. Customers can find out more about the Sunday Saver challenge here and sign up for the challenge via MyAccount.
To take part customers must have a working smart meter for their electricity supply and be opted into half-hourly meter reads.ii
