EDF gives EV leasers 5,000 free miles of electric driving in new offer
- EDF is rewarding customers with 5,000 miles of free electric driving for customers who lease a car through Drive Electric and sign up to EDF’s GoElectric tariff
- Customers who combine the offer with EDF’s Smart Charging bolt-on can save up to £567
EDF is excited to announce it is offering £130 account credit to those who lease an electric vehicle (EV) and sign up to its GoElectric tariff. Equivalent to 5,000 free electric miles[i], customers can drive from London to Paris and back nine times over and can cover on average up to 8 months of driving[ii].
The offer is available to new and existing customers who lease an EV through Drive Electric, a prominent EV leasing provider, and sign up to EDF’s market leading EV tariff, GoElectric. The tariff, which is the cheapest fixed EV tariff, delivers £316 in savings compared to standard variable rate, delivering cheaper electricity rates for both drivers’ EV and home[iii]. Backed by zero carbon electricity[iv], GoElectric comes with five hours off-peak charging between 12am – 5am.
For selected eligible EV models and chargers, an extra £251 can be saved with EDF’s Smart Charging bolt-on[v], which gives customers access to more off-peak electricity rates for their car and home, by letting EDF automatically[vi] charge their EV when electricity is cheapest and greenest.
Alongside this offer, customers may also wrap in an optional Pod Point Solo3S home charger to the lease for £19.65 per month[vii], supplied by Pod, allowing customers to access fast and reliable charging[viii].
Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF said: “We know that lower driving costs are a major attraction for most drivers when switching to electric driving, so we’re pleased, at EDF, to be able to offer customers the full solution. At a time when more EV’s are becoming eligible for government grants, we’re offering 5,000 free miles up front, along with a comprehensive package that covers leasing, charging, and energy savings. It’s everything drivers need to make the switch to electric driving an easy choice. Additionally, with our recent five-star TrustPilot rating for customer service, customers can feel confident they’re in safe hands.”
The offer is available to anyone who leases an EV via Drive Electric between 12 August and 1 November 2025, and EDF will credit £130 to the customer's account within 60 days of their EDF GoElectric tariff going live.
To find out how to get the full solution, visit: https://www.edfenergy.com/electric-cars/leasing. Eligibility requires customers to have a smart meter and be opted into half-hourly meter readings.
EDF customers can receive an additional £50 credit when they refer a friend, with the referred friend also receiving £50 upon joining.
[i] £130 account credit is equivalent to 5,056 free home charging miles based on an EV achieving 3.5 miles per kWh and charging the EV battery during the 9p/kWh off-peak rate (midnight to 5am) on the EDF GoElectric tariff (price correct as of 12 August 2025). Miles per kWh achieved depends on several factors, including battery size, vehicle size, battery efficiency and outside temperature.
[ii] This is based on a typical EV using 1,950 kWh per year (equivalent to 6,825 miles at 3.5 miles/kWh), which averages 569 miles per month - the £130 credit would cover around 8 months of driving at that rate.
[iii] £316 saving compares EDF’s GoElectric Sep26 tariff cost at £1,905 a year based on a dual fuel customer using total electricity consumption of 4,650 kWh (2,700kWh peak rates and 1,950 kWh off-peak rates) and Ofgem typical gas consumption of 11,500 kWh. This is compared to a dual fuel Standard Variable customer (Electricity Standard meter adjusted for equivalent electricity use) which will cost £2,221 a year based on July 2025 energy price cap rates (savings subject to change for future price cap updates).
[v] To get up to the £251 Smart Charging bolt-on saving, annual savings assume 3,150kWh charging off-peak and a £5/month credit. Smart Charging offers an extra 1,200 kWh of off-peak charging. The total off-peak charging is 3,150 kWh with EDF's GoElectric tariff with Smart Charging (GoElectric's off-peak rates at 1,950 kWh). Prices correct as of 12 August 2025. Eligible EVs and chargers are listed here: www.edfenergy.com/electric-cars/ev-tariffs/smart-charging-bolt-on/compatible-evs
[vi] Customers set the schedule and keep their EV plugged in when they’re not using it. EDF will charge it automatically when electricity is at its cheapest. Customers will always pay their off-peak rates when their EV charges, no matter what time of the day it is. If their EV is charging, they’ll be charged the off-peak rates for electricity in their home too.
[vii] The £19.65 / month (inc. VAT) example pricing is based on a standard leasing profile of 9 months initial rental amount, followed by 47 monthly rental payments. Only eligible for certain leases. Drive Electric’s terms and conditions apply.
[viii] A Pod charger is not required to be eligible for the EDF £130 account credit offer.
