GoElectric FAQs

Is the GoElectric tariff only available to EV drivers?

Yes. This tariff is exclusively available to drivers of an electric vehicle, which they charge at home.

Will I save money by switching to GoElectric vs standard variable single-rate?

This depends on how much energy you use within the off-peak hours of your chosen tariff.

We recommend you should be using at least 6% of your energy within the off-peak hours for GoElectric to make it a good option for you. Our EV customers use an average of 43% during off-peak hours on this tariff.

Do I need to have both fuels with you to access GoElectric?

No. GoElectric is only available for electricity. You just need an active EDF electricity account with a fully connected smart meter⁽⁶⁾. If you're a dual fuel customer, we can supply your gas too. Simply get a quote, anytime, for one of our standard gas tariffs.

If I don’t have a smart meter can I get access to GoElectric?

No. You must have a fully connected smart meter⁽⁶⁾. The smart meter tells us how much electricity you’re using during peak and off-peak hours, which we then use to work out your bill.

How can I tell which meter I have?

Don't worry, we'll check which meter you have when you get a quote and let you know your next steps.

What happens if I don't have a compatible smart meter?

If you don't have a compatible smart meter we can connect to, unfortunately you won’t be able to get GoElectric. We’ll do our best to install a smart meter in your area and communicate with it, however sometimes, for reasons beyond our control, we're unable to do this. You can either stay on our GoElectric Single Rate tariff or change your EDF tariff. If you choose to leave us, don’t worry - we won’t charge you an exit fee.

How long will it take for me to get a smart meter installed?

It takes two to four weeks to get a smart meter, once you've joined EDF. Occasionally this may take a little longer, depending on where you live.

GoElectric £27 saving: compares EDF’s GoElectric Oct27 tariff cost at £1,254 a year for an electricity-only customer using a total electricity consumption of 4,650 kWh (2,700 kWh peak rates and 1,950 kWh off-peak rates). This is compared to an electricity-only Standard Variable customer (Economy 7 meter adjusted for equivalent electricity use), which will cost £1,282 a year based on April 2026 energy price cap rates. This assumes your car is charged during off-peak hours at the GoElectric off-peak rate. We use a national average of Direct Debit regional prices and actual savings may apply depending on usage and charging patterns.
Our GoElectric Oct27 tariff will cost £1,254 a year for an electricity-only customer using a total electricity consumption of 4,650 kWh (2,700 kWh peak rates and 1,950 kWh off-peak rates). £286 Smart Charging bolt-on saving: annual savings assume 3,150kWh charging off-peak and a £5/month credit. Smart Charging offers an extra 1,200 kWh of off-peak charging. The total off-peak charging is 3,150 kWh with EDF's GoElectric tariff (GoElectric's off-peak rates at 1,950 kWh). Prices correct as of 5 March 2026.
This tariff is backed yearly by 100% zero carbon nuclear electricity as standard. The UK fuel mix disclosure information published by the government (DESNZ) recognises electricity generated from wind, solar and nuclear produces zero carbon dioxide emissions at the point of generation. The zero-carbon electricity purchased is supplied to the National Grid. Customers receive electricity via the National Grid, not directly from zero-carbon generators. View our fuel mix
