Game, Set… Free Electricity: EDF powers watch parties for finals weekend
EDF gives customers free electricity across next weekend’s finals with Free Electricity Days and Sunday Saver
Forget SW19, for most Brits, the best seat in the house next weekend will be with friends and family on the sofa.
According to new research from EDF, 29 million Brits plan to tune into the finals from home, with 8 in 10 of them saying they’ll be bringing the centre court vibes to their living rooms and hosting loved ones (22%).
To build the at-home viewing vibe, those hosting plan to buy picky bits (42%) strawberries & cream (41%), and fizz (23%), with 24% opting for themed decorations and a huge 88% even planning to dress the part in tennis whites for the occasion.
Of the unlucky 26% who missed out on the ballot draw, many have decided to punt for a watch party at home instead – and six in 10 (59%) cited cost as the main reason.
But with millions set to host, it could be game, set and match for household bills. Nine in 10 (92%) say they’ll be powering extra appliances this weekend to get the party started. From doing more cooking (44%) and bringing out back-up fans/heaters (34%) to powering extra fridges (28%) and projectors (19%) and keeping the TV on for longer than usual (34%), electricity costs could soon add up.
To help Brits ace their watch parties, EDF is giving customers up to 22 hours of free electricity for the highly anticipated weekend.
Customers already signed up to EDF’s June Sunday Saver Challenge will be able to earn up to 16 hours of free electricity on Sunday for reducing their use during weekday peak hours (4-7pm) the week prior (week commencing 30th June). The provider has already given out nearly 10 million hours kWh of of free electricity, crediting customers over £2million since launching Sunday Saver*.
On top of Sunday Saver, EDF is also offering every customer who registers for the next Sunday Saver challenge, a Free Electricity Day on Saturday[1] - meaning the headline finals matches could be enjoyed for free on top of other matches across the weekend.
EDF’s Free Electricity Days give customers free electricity on days where they plan to use it the most.
Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF, said: “One of the biggest weekends for British sporting events is round the corner and we know from our research, a lot of people will be entertaining at home with friends and family.
“Our research showed us that cost is a key factor as to why so many Brits are choosing to tune in from home, turning their living rooms into their own personal centre court. That’s why, in addition to our Sunday Saver offer which customers are already making the most of, and can earn up to 16 hours of free electricity on Sunday, we’re giving all customers a Free Electricity Day on Saturday too. It means they can power their parties, chill their drinks and enjoy the action without worrying about the electricity bills.”
