Got questions? We've got the answers
Who can take part in the event?
How do I sign up?
You can sign up at any time during the tournament by going to MyAccount and heading to Energy Hub, then selecting 'Energy Events'.
How long will the free electricity last?
It is dependent on the match being played. Group stage games will receive 2 hours of free electricity. Knockout stage games will also receive 2 hours, with the potential for 3 hours if the game goes to extra time. The free electricity offer ends once both teams are out of the tournament.
When will I receive the credit?
Your free electricity credit will appear on your EDF bill once both teams are out of the tournament. Depending on what game they are knocked out of, the credit should be visible by the following Wednesday, at the latest, which will be on 24 July 2026.
How is the credit calculated?
We calculate your electricity consumption during the free period by multiplying it with your tariff's unit rate. 5% VAT is included in the credited amount.
What happens if EDF can’t get my smart meter readings?
If we receive less than 90% of your readings, we may give you an average credit based on what other customers received for the match.
Will I receive updates about the event?
Yes. By taking part, you agree to receive updates via email and SMS.
What if England or Scotland are knocked out?
The event only runs while England or Scotland remain in the tournament. Once both teams are eliminated, the event ends.
What if I’m also signed up to Sunday Saver?
Don’t worry, you won’t miss out. Here’s how it works:
Most of the time, you’ll get both credits:
- Your free hours from Sunday Saver
- Your free electricity from the football offer
If a match overlaps with your Sunday Saver hours (8am–12am), Sunday Saver takes priority. We’ll apply the overlapping time to Sunday Saver, then credit the rest of the match through the football offer.
You won’t get double credit for the same minutes, but you won’t lose out either.
Weekday matches won’t affect your baseline. If a match happens on a weekday, we’ll remove that day from your Sunday Saver baseline calculation, so there’s no need to shift your usage.
Your Sunday Saver challenge still works as normal. We only handle overlapping time differently — everything else stays the same.
What if I don't watch footy?
Don't worry, if footy isn't your thing, you can sign up and still get the free electricity.
