EDF releases cheapest fixed tariff since 2021, priced £300 below the cap

Posted May 06, 2025

EDF has today (Tuesday) launched a new fixed tariff which offers households the lowest fixed prices seen from the supplier since 2021.

EDF’s Simply Fixed Direct May26 12-month tariff, priced at £1,549 for an average dual fuel customer paying by direct debit, is the cheapest energy-only fixed deal among major suppliers[1], and falls £300 below the current price cap (£1,849).

According to EDF’s latest price cap predictions, the new fixed tariff is expected to remain competitive against the cap over the next year. EDF currently predicts the new fixed deal will be at least £154 cheaper than Ofgem’s July 2025 price cap, and £143 cheaper than Ofgem’s price cap over winter.

The tariff is available to new and existing customers and there is no smart meter requirement to sign up. Customers can also benefit from no exit fees when signing up directly through EDF.

"Priced at £300 below Ofgem’s current price cap, our new fixed deal gives customers a rare opportunity to lock these lowest prices in now and enjoy price stability for the next 12 months”, said Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF. “While wholesale costs have dropped, the market remains unstable and global factors could push prices up again. Given the volatility, we advise households to consider fixed or tracker tariffs.”

The deal could be removed at any time due to volatility in global wholesale prices.

EDF frequently offers the cheapest fixed rate deals amongst major suppliers and is helping more customers save cash on their bills with its ‘Sunday Saver’ challenge.  ‘Sunday Saver’ challenges customers to shift some of their electricity use away from weekday peak hours (4pm – 7pm)[i] to earn up to 16 free hours of electricity the following Sunday.

For EDF customers that refer a friend, the energy supplier is also giving both customers £50 off their energy bill. T&Cs apply. For more information, click here: https://www.edfenergy.com/refer-a-friend

Existing customers can sign up to the new tariffs in MyAccount or in the EDF app with new customers able to join here
