EDF to offer free electricity on four Sundays

Posted April 01, 2025
  • EDF is the only supplier offering customers the opportunity to earn free electricity on four Sundays over the next month
  • The Sunday Saver challenges have so far seen customers earn over six million free hours of electricity, worth over £1.4m

EDF will continue to offer customers the opportunity to earn free electricity throughout April to spend on Sundays through its popular ‘Sunday Saver’ challenge.

With standard variable prices increasing today, EDF is the only supplier offering four Sundays worth of free electricity over the next month, alongside the chance to beat the cap through fixed offers, so customers can lower their bills and do more of what they love on Sundays.

‘Sunday Saver’ enables eligible customers to earn free electricity on Sundays by shifting their electricity use away from weekday peak hours (4pm – 7pm). The more electricity customers shift, the more free electricity they can earn the following Sunday, with between four and 16 hours on offer.

Throughout the challenges so far, customers have earnt over six million free hours of electricity, worth over £1.4m[i].

Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF said: “With the new price cap level coming into effect, seeing the average annual energy bill rising by 6%, we are providing great value with our fixed tariffs, and we are the only energy company offering four Sundays of free electricity over the next month. It’s great to see that so many customers are benefitting from the initiative and we’re excited to give more customers the opportunity to do the things they love on a Sunday.”

EDF regularly offers the cheapest fixed rate deals amongst major suppliers, with its cheapest fix currently offering savings of £223 against the new price cap level[ii]. In addition, EDF’s Simply Tracker Jun26 tariff tracks at £50 below the price cap, with that £25 per fuel saving coming from standing charges rather than unit prices, to ensure those who sign-up will see the same financial benefit even if they are low energy consumers.

Registration is now open and will close on Sunday 6th April 11:59pm, ahead of the challenge starting on Monday 7th April. The Sundays where customers will be able to use their earned free electricity will be 20th and 27th April, and 4th and 11th May. Customers can find out more about the Sunday Saver challenge here and sign up for the challenge via MyAccount.

To take part customers must have a working smart meter for their electricity supply and be opted into half-hourly meter reads[iii]

Customers can access a personalised view of their households’ energy use on Energy Hub via MyAccount. EDF has found that customers who are using Energy Hub to understand their usage are able to actively reduce their bills by up to £41[iv] a year as well as helping to cut their carbon footprint.
