In UK there's a range of government support, grants and schemes available to help with home improvements such as installing a new boiler, loft insulation and cavity-wall insulation.
These home improvements can help you cut hundreds of pounds from your heating costs each year.
It's also worth looking into the financial support that's available for low-income households who may be struggling to pay their energy bills.

Boiler grants
Replacing an old boiler with a new energy efficient boiler could save you hundreds of pound on your heating bill every year. You can cover all – or most – of the cost of you new boiler by applying to the ECO scheme or one of the other government boiler grant schemes around the country.

Home insulation grants
Insulating your home could help you cut hundreds of pounds off your energy bills each yea. You can get a a loft insulation grant, cavity-wall insulation grant or solid wall insulation grant to make your home draught-free.

Air Source Heat Pumps is a renewable heating technologies that will allow you to generate your own energy at home. Air source heat pump grants, and financial support to cover some – or all – of the cost of your air pump installation are available.

Heating Grants and schemes around the country
Great Britain: ECO scheme
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme helps people on certain benefits to cut their energy costs through home improvements. The scheme replaced the Warm Front grant in 2013, and is also known as the ECO Affordable Warmth Scheme.
All the big energy companies offer free loft and cavity wall insulation and low-cost boilers (and installation) to eligible customers, as part of the ECO scheme.
England: Green Homes Grant scheme
Homeowners and landlords in England can get vouchers worth up to £5,000 or £10,000 to make energy-efficient improvements to their properties.
You can get heating grants under the new scheme for things like home insulation, air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and solar thermal panels.

Scotland: Warmer Homes Scotland scheme
The Scottish Government's Warmer Homes Scotland Scheme helps low-income households and vulnerable people heat their homes for less through home improvements.
Under the scheme, you can get heating grants for things like central heating, boiler, home insulation, air source heat pumps, and more.
Wales: Nest
The Welsh Government's Nest scheme helps low-income households and people with certain health conditions to heat their homes for less.
The scheme covers new central heating systems, free boilers, free home insulation, and more.
Financial support to help pay your energy bills
Warm Home Discount Scheme
The government's Warm Home Discount scheme gives some low-income households £140 off their electricity bill once a year. Anyone who was on the Guaranteed Credit part of the Pension Credit on 5 July 2020 will get the 2020/21 Warm Home discount automatically.
Others who receiver benefits might also be able to get the discount by applying for the 'Warm Home Discount – Support Plus' scheme each year through their energy supplier. We take part in the scheme, but not all energy suppliers do.
Cold Weather Payment
People on certain benefits will automatically get a Cold Weather Payment from the government. If you're eligible, you'll get £25 for each 7-day period of very cold weather between 1 November and 31 March.
It's paid within 14 working days of each cold-weather period, and goes straight into the same bank or building society account as your benefit payments.

Winter Fuel Payment
If you were born on or before 5 October 1954, you could get a payment from the government to help you pay your heating bill. Winter Fuel Payments range from £100 and £300.

Renewable Heat Incentive scheme
The Renewable Heat Incentive is the government's financial incentive to encourage people to replace their oil and gas central heating systems with renewable heating systems - like air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and solar. Basically, you get money for the heat your renewable system generates.
