Why finance a heat pump?
Thinking about upgrading to an air source heat pump but worried about the upfront cost? Financing your heat pump is a smart way to start enjoying the benefits right away while spreading the cost with easy monthly payments.
Here are some great reasons to consider financing your heat pump:
- Lower upfront cost: no need to pay a big lump sum upfront for the cost of an air source heat pump
- Energy savings sooner: start saving on your energy bills immediately, while paying off the heat pump gradually. A heat pump can be over 300%(2) more efficient than a standard gas boiler, with tailored air source heat pump tariffs, potentially saving you money on your heating bills
- Flexible payment options: some financing plans offer low or even 0% interest, making payments easy to fit your budget
- Environmentally friendly: make a positive impact by switching to electric heating, and lower your carbon footprint by around 13%(3) a year.

Heat pump finance FAQs
Are there any hidden fees?
There are no hidden fees; however, the finance is subject to eligibility, status, and affordability checks, and it's available to UK residents aged 18 or over. The deposit you’ll need to make is between 15% and 25%.
The prices you see include the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant, which is subject to eligibility and approval by Ofgem. And just to clarify, we don’t receive any commission or incentives from our finance provider, so you’re free to explore your own finance options if that works better for you. Read our air source heat pump guide to learn more.
What happens if I move home?
If you move home, any air source heat pump grants (such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme) remain linked to the property. However, if you have taken out a personal loan to finance your heat pump, this loan remains your responsibility and cannot be transferred to the new homeowner. You would need to continue making the repayments or settle the outstanding balance if you decide to move.
Can I cancel the loan agreement before product is installed?
We want you to feel completely comfortable with your decision. If for any reason you decide to cancel the loan agreement, you can do so within 14 days or submitting your loan application. You can then decide on an alternative method of payment. Just let us know. EDF Heat Pumps is always here to help you through the process and make it as smooth as possible.
What happens when the plan ends?
Once your plan comes to an end, you’ll have fully paid off the cost of your heat pump, and you can enjoy the long term savings and comfort of your energy efficient system! At that point, you won’t have any further payments to make, and your heat pump will continue to keep your home warm and cosy.
Do you perform a credit check?
Yes, the lender will perform a credit check as part of the loan application process. Credit is subject to status and affordability checks. Terms and conditions apply.
How do I find out if I am eligible for the plan?
To apply for heat pump financing, you need to:
- Be a UK resident aged 18 or over.
- Under 85 at the end of the term of the loan
- Be a UK homeowner
- Have your own bank account to set up the payment plan
- Have a source of regular income
If you meet the criteria above, you’re all set to move forward and explore our financing options. If you’re ready, we’re here to guide you through the next steps!
When do payments start?
Your payments will typically start the month after your heat pump is installed and up and running. Just remember, keeping up with repayments is important, as failure to do so can affect your credit rating. In the meantime, our promise to you: we only install heat pumps that we’re confident will keep your home warm. If it doesn’t perform as promised, we’ll give you your money back. T&Cs apply.
Is the payment plan regulated?
The payment plan is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), with FRN 727594. Shermin Finance Limited acts as a credit broker, not a lender, and they can introduce you to a panel of finance providers. The best part? They don’t charge any fees for their consumer credit services; it’s all about giving you options and making the process as easy as possible!
