Frequently asked questions about the Pod Point Plug & Power tariff

EDF will pass your details on to Pod Point. They'll email you with access to purchase the Solo 3S universal home charger for just £499, or untethered for only £549, and spread the rest over our two-year fixed priced tariff.

Yes, the energy tariff and home charger is compatible with all electric vehicle makes and models.

Yes, Pod Point offer the Solo 3S without an energy tariff but at a recommended retail price of £999.

You must have a fully connected smart meter(6) to benefit from the off-peak rates of this tariff. Having a smart meter tells us how much electricity you’re using during peak and off-peak hours, which is then used to work out your bill.

If you don't have a compatible smart meter that we can connect to, unfortunately you won’t be able to access our Pod Point Plug & Power tariff.

Don't worry, we'll check which meter you have when you get a quote. We'll let you know the next steps to your sign up journey.

It takes two to four weeks to get a smart meter once you've joined EDF. Occasionally this may take a little longer, depending on where you live.

If you're an existing EDF customer you can book a smart meter appointment through MyAccount.

You’ll need to get a quote and tick the box to say you're interested in an EV tariff. Then sign up for our Standard Variable tariff. You'll just be on this tariff while we take over your supply and connect(6) with your smart meter, if you already have one.

No smart meter? No problem! Once your electricity supply's with us, you’ll be able to book an appointment through MyAccount. Once your smart meter's installed and connected(6) we’ll email you to get a quote and sign up to Pod Point Plug & Power.

Yes, If you exit the tariff before the end of your fixed term, exit fees may apply for both the tariff and your charge point.  See your tariff terms and conditions for details of your tariff exit fee.

Details of your charge point exit fee can be found in the Pod Point terms and conditions that apply to your reduced-price charge point installation. This will be applied on a pro rata basis, taking into account how long you have left of your fixed term at the point of exit

See Pod Point's terms and conditions and our tariff terms and conditions.

No. Pod Point Plug & Power is available as dual fuel, but you can use it only for your electricity. You just need an active EDF electricity account with a fully connected(6) smart meter.

Frequently asked questions about EV home charging

Pod Point Plug and Power customers can buy the Solo 3S untethered charge point for £499. The tethered model costs £549.

Tethered chargers have a cable permanently attached so you'll never have to think about where your cable is. You can simply park up and plug in.

An untethered charger has a socket for you to plug a separate cable into. Most new EVs come with a type 2 connector, but if you have a type 1, we recommend an untethered charger.

  • Most new EVs come with a Type 2 connector, but it's worth checking before getting a tethered charge point
  • An untethered charge point is a charging station with no cable
  • Untethered charge points can charge any electric car with a fast-charging cable

This depends on the size of your car battery and the speed of the charging point. With a 7kW charging point, it takes just under eight hours to fully charge an electric car with a 60kWh battery.

Kilowatt (kW) refers to the power rating of a home charge point. It's the maximum amount of power that can be drawn from the socket at any time. A 7kW home charger will charge your car three times faster than a three-pin plug.

In the UK, 3-7kW chargers are the most popular choice. Some homes have a single-phase (AC) electricity supply and can support the additional 7kW load. Homes with a three-phase (AC) supply can use a more powerful charger of up to 22kW.  You always need to check with the installer that your fuse board has enough spare capacity to support the additional load of a home charging station.

90% of customer qualify for installation, but if you don't meet the criteria, Pod Point can usually still carry out the home installation. However, an additional cost may be incurred.

Once your order is placed with Pod Point, they'll be in touch to better understand your requirements and produce a no-obligation quote for additional works. If you decide not to proceed, they'll let us know your installation didn’t go ahead, and can leave the Pod Point Plug & Power tariff, free of charge.

If you move home within your two-year fixed term, the exit fee for your Pod Point charge point installation may still apply. To understand more about exit fees, please read Pod Point's terms and conditions and our tariff terms and conditions.

If you're planning to move within the next two years, it may be worth considering if this tariff is the right choice for you now.
