Warm Home Discount Scheme
Where do you live?
The Warm Home Discount Scheme works differently depending on where you live in the country. Please select where you live below to find out more.
Scotland
If you live in Scotland, you may receive the £150 Warm Home Discount automatically through the Core Group or by applying to EDF through the Scotland Broader Group
Core Group
For 2026/27, Core Group eligibility has expanded in Scotland. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) identifies eligible households and matches them to the electricity supplier that supplied them on the qualifying date of 23 August 2026.
If you qualify through the Core Group, you do not need to apply. The DWP will write to you between October and December 2026 to confirm whether you're eligible and whether you need to take any action. The letter comes directly from the DWP and EDF does not receive a copy.
Scotland Broader Group
If you do not receive the Warm Home Discount automatically through the Core Group, you may be able to apply to EDF through the Scotland Broader Group.
Applications are open to customers who meet our approved eligibility criteria. You'll need to complete an application, provide any requested evidence, and still be supplied by EDF when the rebate is paid.
If you think you may be eligible for the Scotland Broader Group, we encourage you to apply while applications are open. You should not wait for a Core Group letter if this could mean missing the application window.
You can only receive one Warm Home Discount rebate. If you apply through the Scotland Broader Group and are later confirmed as eligible through the Core Group, your rebate will be provided through the Core Group route.
England and Wales
If you're eligible for the £150 Warm Home Discount, you don't need to apply
Customers in England and Wales do not apply for the Warm Home Discount.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) identifies eligible households and matches them to the electricity supplier that supplied them on the qualifying date of 23 August 2026.
If you qualify for the Warm Home Discount Core Group, the DWP will write to you between October and December 2026. The letter will confirm whether you're eligible and whether you need to take any action. The letter comes directly from the DWP and EDF does not receive a copy.
Where no further action is required, we'll apply the £150 rebate automatically to your account.
If you believe you're eligible but haven't received a letter by January 2027, you can check your eligibility using the government's Warm Home Discount eligibility checker or contact the Warm Home Discount Helpline before it closes on 26 February 2027.
Eligible customers should receive their rebate by 31 March 2027.
What is the Warm Home Discount Scheme?
The Warm Home Discount is a government-led scheme that requires participating electricity suppliers to support customers who are fuel poor or at risk of fuel poverty. Support is provided through a £150 rebate for eligible customers.
There are two ways customers may receive the Warm Home Discount rebate, depending on where they live in Great Britain:
Core Group
Eligible customers living in England, Wales or Scotland may be eligible for the £150 rebate through the Core Group if they or their partner receive a qualifying means-tested benefit on the qualifying date. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) identifies eligible customers and matches them to the electricity supplier that supplied them on the qualifying date. If you're eligible through the Core Group, you do not need to apply.
Scotland Broader Group
Customers living in Scotland who do not receive the rebate automatically through the Core Group may be able to apply directly to EDF through the Scotland Broader Group. To receive a rebate through the Scotland Broader Group, customers must meet EDF's eligibility criteria, complete any required verification checks and still be supplied by EDF when the rebate is paid.
How will I receive my Warm Home Discount Rebate?
If you're eligible for the Warm Home Discount, you should receive your £150 rebate by 31 March 2027.
How you receive the rebate depends on how you pay for your electricity.
Credit meter
If you have a credit meter, we'll apply the £150 rebate directly to your electricity account. We'll let you know once the rebate has been applied, and it will appear on your account and future bills. You'll also be able to view this via your online account. Log into MyAccount or register now - it only takes a few minutes.
Traditional prepayment meter
If you have a traditional prepayment meter, you'll receive a £150 voucher by post or email. You can redeem the voucher at any Post Office branch. Please note that vouchers expire three months after the issue date shown on the voucher and you can only redeem the voucher at the Post Office. Find the nearest Post Office to you.
Smart Pay As You Go meter
If you have a Smart Pay As You Go meter, we'll apply the £150 rebate directly to your electricity meter. You'll be able to view the credit on your meter and in your online account. Log into MyAccount or register now - it only takes a few minutes.
If you're eligible but haven't received your rebate by 31 March 2027, please contact us or, for Core Group queries, follow the instructions provided in your Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) letter.
