HARTLEPOOL power station has extended its deadline for applications to join its company’s renowned apprentice scheme – with the closing date now January 24.

The site has a great track record for training its apprentices, with the first two years of the four-year programme spent at Bridgwater College, home to the National College for Nuclear. At the college Hartlepool’s new recruits will join apprentices from other EDF Energy power stations.

The apprentices will learn basic engineering skills in their first year, before specialising in their trade in the second year.

They will also get opportunities to develop their ‘life skills’ as part of the apprenticeship programme before completing the final two years back at Hartlepool power station.

As the training takes just a few miles from the new build site at Hinkley Point C the apprentices will be able to see the UK’s newest nuclear station being constructed but will also get a chance to visit both Hinkley Point A and B, sites as part of the training programme.
