ChangeHow does the Warm Home Discount scheme work in England and Wales?
The Warm Home Discount is a £150 rebate that helps with the cost of energy during the winter.
Everyone who qualifies for the Warm Home Discount in England and Wales gets a letter from the government.
Who qualifies?
You qualify for the Warm Home Discount if, on the qualifying date, these statements apply to you:
- You were getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or you were in receipt of a means tested benefit
- your name (or your partner’s) is on the electricity bill
- Your electricity supplier takes part in the Warm Home Discount scheme (EDF takes part)
When does the letter arrive?
If you're eligible, you should get your letter from the government between October and December. It will either say you're getting the rebate automatically; or it will ask you to phone a dedicated helpline to give a few more details.
What if you don't get a letter?
If you've not had a letter by 31 December, you can check if you qualify for the rebate.
If you think you qualify, you should phone the government's Warm Home Discount Helpline before it closes to find out what's happened.
The Helpline is usually open from late-October to end of February. You can find the number and opening hours during these dates at the government's Warm Home Discount webpages.
