Taking simple actions and changing behaviour can make a difference to the energy efficiency of your business

The basics

Growing concerns around climate change are compelling large business/public sector organisations to adopt a more sustainable approach to managing their activities. At EDF Energy, we believe that planning for a sustainable future begins with energy efficiency. Saving energy not only helps the environment, it will save your business money too.

Three key drivers for energy efficiency

There are three key reasons for the revival of interest in energy efficiency:

Costs
Energy costs are significantly higher today than they were three to four years ago. Investing more in energy efficiency means that the financial returns are greater than ever.

Climate change
Taking action to substantially reduce our carbon emissions is important for our future prosperity. Energy use is a major source of carbon emissions and improvements in energy efficiency deliver immediate and lasting carbon cuts. They can be substantial too – often delivering around 10 to 20 per cent reductions with little investment.

Legislation
The case for tackling energy efficiency is likely continue to grow stronger through legislation too. A new government scheme called the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) includes a provision that aims to prevent organisations from claiming carbon emissions savings based simply on purchasing renewable energy from energy suppliers. Energy efficiency is perhaps the most effective way to reduce carbon emissions in the foreseeable future.

Start checking your energy use

Energy efficiency begins with making changes at an individual level. Everyone has a role to play in saving energy and these small changes can make a significant difference to your business. The basis of a good energy efficiency campaign is knowing how much, where and when you use energy in your business.  Detailed measurement combined with a little detective work can provide insight into where savings can be made. We can help:

  • Advice on how to get the best data can be found within our award winning Energy Efficiency Toolkit
  • We also offer Energy View - a product which helps you measure, manage and save energy, through online energy monitoring. It’s designed to help you identify areas for improvement, quickly and easily

Get going

EDF Energy encourages responsible energy use and we want to help large business/public sector organisations to do the same:

  • We’ve developed an award winning Energy Efficiency Toolkit. It’s designed to take the hard work out of saving energy.
  • Our EDF Group R&D engineers can put together an Advanced Efficiency Programme for your business, if you have sites using more than 15GWh per year.
