A smart meter is a next generation meter that records your energy use, sends that information to us and displays it for you.
By sending us your meter readings automatically, smart meters will help us to send you more accurate bills.
By making you more aware of the energy you’re using, smart meters can help show you where you could save energy, which could help you save money and reduce your CO2 emissions.

Getting a smart meter
We are currently running several trials to test smart metering technology.
One of these trials is part of the Energy Demand Research Project, which is partly funded by the Government and is managed by Ofgem, the energy regulator.
Depending on the Government's decision, we hope to begin replacing old meters that are coming to the end of their working lives with smart meters. Our goal is to have all our customers on smart meters by 2020.
