How does refer a friend work?

It's super easy - just head to MyAccount, find your exclusive link, and get sharing! Or if you’re a Small Business customer please email SmallBusinessReferaFriend@edfenergy.com to request your referral link.

When anyone signs up using your referral link, in line with our terms and conditions, both you and your friend will get the credit on your EDF accounts.

As soon as you have signed up with us, you can register for a MyAccount. You'll find your own Refer a Friend link to share here!

No! You'll earn a reward for every friend that signs up, so why stop at just one? Keep referring, keep earning!

Once you have your link, get sharing! You can email it, WhatsApp it, share it on your socials - whatever works best for you.

However, there are a few restrictions on who you share your referral link to and how you share your referral link. Please see our terms and conditions for more information.

Residential and Small Business customers can refer friends who aren't currently supplied by EDF. Only residential properties can be referred at the moment, not small businesses.

Once your friend's successfully switched to us, and you've both made a payment to us, we’ll automatically credit both of your EDF accounts. It typically takes around four weeks from when your friend joins, for your account to be credited (it can take longer if anything delays their switch). We'll send you both an email to let you know the credit's been applied to your EDF account.

If your friend uses your referral link but is unsure if they want to switch straight away, they will be emailed a copy of their quote from us so they can review it in their own time and decide to switch later if they want to. If they decide they want to go ahead with their switch, then they will need to complete a new quote using your referral link, this way you’ll both receive the credit automatically. If your friend forgets to use your referral link, please contact us and we can apply the account credit manually, once their first Direct Debit payment has been taken (in line with our terms and conditions).

You can still share your referral link. Simply get in touch with us once you get our email confirming that your credit's been applied to your account. We'll then arrange to send the credit to your meter.

If you or your friend close your account, for any reason, before the credit is applied, then the referral will be cancelled.

General Terms and Conditions – EDF Refer a Friend offer:

  1. ‘we’ or ‘us’ or ‘our’ refers to EDF Energy Customers Limited trading as EDF, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 02228297 and whose registered office is at Nova North, 11 Bressenden Place, Victoria, London, SW1E 5BY. This scheme is applicable to EDF residential & Small Business supply customers (“you” or the “referrer”) who use our Refer a Friend process to recommend EDF to their friends or family, only, (the “recipient”) and could entitle both parties to an account credit (the “scheme”).
  2. This scheme is effective from 09:00am on 22 April 2024 and shall run until further notice by EDF. We reserve the right to close the scheme at any time.
  3. The referrer and the recipient will receive an account credit of an amount detailed on the referrer’s EDF online account (see 5 below) (the “reward”) once the referrer and the recipient have both become an EDF residential supply customer and their first payment to EDF has cleared. The reward will not be sent if the conditions of paragraph 6 below are not met.
  4. All  transactions must be validated by us before rewards can be issued. Rewards will usually be paid to the referrer and the recipient within 30 days of whichever of the following is the last to occur: 1) the date that referrer’s first payment to EDF has cleared; or 2) the date that the recipient’s first payment to EDF has cleared, but this may be subject to change. We will not respond to any queries received about non receipt of rewards before this time.  You cannot withdraw the reward as cash from your account.
  5. The value of the reward is subject to change at any time. Our current reward offer amount will be displayed in the referrer’s EDF online account (accessible here: https://edfenergy.com/myaccount/login) or on our website: https://www.edfenergy.com/refer-friend.
  6. To be eligible to take part in this promotion and receive the reward under this scheme, the following conditions must be met:

    a. You, as the referrer, must be an existing customer of EDF;

    b. The recipient you are referring must not be an existing EDF customer and must not have been an EDF customer within the previous 12 months;

    c. The recipient you are referring must not live at a property which is currently supplied by EDF. 

    d. Only residential properties will be eligible for referral under the scheme.

    e. As the referrer, you cannot refer yourself under this scheme, including where you are moving premises. You cannot refer any other party under this scheme in relation to receiving a supply at the premises associated with your existing energy account;

    f. If the recipient cancels the switch of their energy supply to us, then neither the referrer nor the recipient will receive the reward;

    g. As the referrer, if you close your existing EDF account before the reward has been applied, then neither the referrer nor the recipient will receive the reward;

    h. The recipient must be referred to EDF through the referrer’s unique referral URL (the “referral link”) and use the referral link to sign up as an EDF residential supply customer for the supply of electricity or gas at a property which is not already supplied by EDF. If the recipient does not use the referral link to sign up we will be unable to match the reward back to you and no reward will be paid to either the referrer or the recipient. The referral link can be found in your EDF online account.

    i. The reward will only be payable if the recipient signs up as an EDF residential supply customer directly with EDF and will not be payable if the recipient signs up as an EDF residential supply customer through a third-party website.

    j. The reward cannot be used in conjunction with any other prospective customer promotional offer. 

    k. Where the referrer refers the recipient to EDF for both their gas and electricity supply, the referrer will only be entitled to receive one reward to their EDF account, and the recipient will also be entitled to only one reward for this referral. 

    l. Where either the referrer does not have a referral link, or the recipient cannot contact us online, the recipient may email or call us with either: i) the referrer’s unique referral link; or ii) the referrer’s email address which is linked to their EDF account.     m. Your referral link should only be shared with friends or family. If we suspect you are using the scheme for commercial purposes or sending your referral link to people not known to you, we reserve the right to refuse to transfer the reward to the referrer and the recipient. Before sharing your referral link with friends or family, you should consider whether they will be interested in the scheme and only share the referral link with those who will be interested.

  7. Any personal data collected during this process will be stored and processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy (https://www.edfenergy.com/terms-conditions/privacy-cookie-policy).

  9. We will not respond to queries about non receipt of rewards that are received more than 60 days after the scheme closure date.
  10. Please note: this scheme is being monitored. We reserve the right to suspend or cancel transactions where; i) we suspect the conditions under paragraph 8 above are not being met; or ii) where such transactions are suspected of being fraudulent and such customers may have their details passed to relevant authorities for further investigation.
  11. The referrer and the recipient are deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions upon using this Refer a Friend scheme.
  12. This promotion is governed by English law and both the referrer, and the recipient, submit to the jurisdiction of the English courts.

Unfortunately not, Refer a Friend can not be used in in conjunction with any other prospective customer promotional offer.
