What happens after I give a meter reading – I pay by Budget Direct Debit (regular monthly payments)?

1. You asked me for the meter reading; it was time for my Direct Debit review

When we review your Direct Debit, we use your meter readings to check your latest energy use. You'll also get a bill within a couple of days of your meter reading.

You get two reviews a year to keep your payments on track to cover your energy use. We'll let you know if your payments will go up, down or stay the same after each review.

How Direct Debit reviews work >

Why your bill can take a little longer!

If your meter reading didn't look right for some reason, we'll need to check it's okay to use. We aim to get your bill to you within five days of your reading, but at busy times it can take a little longer.

2. I gave a meter reading; but it's not time for my Direct Debit review

If it's not time for your next Direct Debit review, we simply add your meter reading to your records.

This lets us know the exact amount of energy you've used since your last reading. That means we can charge it at the right price when it comes to your next bill.

But you won't get a bill. This comes after your next Direct Debit review, when we'll ask you for another meter reading.

Your payment amount won't change either. This would only happen after a Direct Debit review – and only if we need to get your payments back on track.

When is my next review? Find out in My Direct Debit in MyAccount.

 Just had an estimated bill?

If you send us a reading just after you've had an estimated bill, we'll cancel it and send you a new bill based on your meter reading.

Your payment amount won't change at this point. This will happen after your next Direct Debit review, if we need to get your payments back on track.
