My gas went off when I wasn't even using gas – why this can happen with a gas prepayment meter (not smart)

Your gas meter will turn off when you run out of credit. This can happen even if you aren't using gas at the time – for two reasons:

1. Your daily standing charges come off your credit, whether you're using gas or not
    
2. If you're on a debt repayment plan, you need to keep up with your repayments to avoid being cut off; this means topping up your meter at least once – even when you have credit on your meter)
