How to read a gas smart meter that has a red 'A' and black 'B' button under its screen
Normally, a smart meter sends us your gas readings automatically. So please only give us a reading if we've asked you to do this.
If we've asked you for a reading, please take it from the meter itself – not your in-home display. Your meter is usually on a wall or board; your in-home display either plugs into a socket or runs on batteries.
It looks like you have a have a Landis and Gyr (SMETS1) meter. Follow these simple steps to read this type of smart gas meter:
- Press the red 'A' button to wake the screen
- Press the red 'A' button several times again until you see ‘METER INDEX
- Write down the numbers you see (they'll be in front of 'M3') – this is your reading
When you're reading your gas meter, ignore any zeros at the front of the number – and ignore any numbers after the decimal point (the dot).
