How do I change the way I pay?

We can give you the answer for your type of account, once we know what your account number starts with. You can find your account number in MyAccount, and on your EDF bills, emails and letters.

My account number starts with '67'

The step-by-step guides below explain how you change the way you pay – and how you can switch to or from smart Pay As You Go.

Before you can switch your payment type, we'll give you a new quote. This will show you how much you'll pay on your current tariff (if you can keep it) on your new payment type.

We do this because your tariff prices might change when you change the way you pay. For example, the unit rates you get when you pay by Direct Debit and Pay As You Go, are lower than those you get with Card, Cash or Cheque.

How to change the way you pay (except PAYG)

  1. Go to 'Payment method change' in MyAccount
  2. Give your meter readings (or ask us to estimate them for you)
  3. Choose how you want to pay from the available options
  4. Choose a new tariff – or decide to keep your current tariff (if this is possible)
  5. Choose how you'd like to pay any outstanding balance on your account

If you're choosing to pay by Direct Debit, we'll also take your bank details and let you know the next steps.
