What are the wholesale energy costs?
Wholesale energy costs are the price that EDF pays to obtain electricity and gas for our customers. Most of our energy is purchased and secured in advance. This keeps our customers' energy prices stable and avoids sudden price fluctuations.
The wholesale cost of energy makes up less than half of a typical bill. Other costs include VAT and social and environmental obligations mandated by the government, transmission and distribution charges set by Ofgem and our operating costs.
Where do wholesale costs fit into the supply process?
EDF is committed to keeping customer bills as low as possible. We will continue to reduce the costs within our control and work with the government, regulator and stakeholders to bear down on policy and regulated costs to keep bills as low as possible.
