Spending time with Commercial Metering Operative Michael Agustin

Posted March 12, 2023

Having joined EDF as Commercial Metering Operative in Swindon in 2022, Michael quicky felt like a part of a friendly supporting team.

“Our managers and colleagues have very good rapport and support each other. The team feels trusted and valued by management, which helps to maintain a good staff morale and give maximum effort to our work.”

Michael, Commerical Metering Operative

Why did you choose to join EDF?

EDF is a leading provider of renewable electricity and I wanted to be part of the team that contributes to green energy for future generations. Being out in the field representing the EDF brand gives me a sense of pride and joy.

What do you enjoy most in your role?

I enjoy the support from managers and the whole team as well as the interaction with customers in the commercial sector. Having enough time to focus on the job without rushing allows me to carry out tasks safely and to the best quality.

What does EDF offer to help you achieve a good work/life balance?

Work life balance is great. It suits me having Monday to Friday fixed 8-4pm and weekends off. Plus, overtime is always optional. Being able to see couple of weeks of work ahead also helps me plan things, which I didn’t have with previous company.

Would you describe your team as diverse and inclusive?

I believe my team is very diverse. I’m originally from the Philippines and I genuinely feel included. Everyone treats everyone as an individual which is also one of the reasons why I like managers and the team I’m in.

What learning and development opportunities are you getting the most benefit from?

My training was well detailed and hugely focused on safety. I’ve learnt a lot of since joining EDF including how to locally download meter data via probe which I didn’t know before.

The informal opportunities such as learning from mentors and our team group chat have been very useful as we also learn from other people’s experiences. I enjoy being exposed to different metering setups and going through the safety binder is a lot of help. In the future, I’m planning to gain more qualifications and progress in my career.

What career advice would you give to someone interested in developing a career in your area of expertise?

Just do it! It’ll be the best decision you’ve ever made! It may be a lot to take in whilst starting but as long as you give full dedication to learning, you will reap the rewards of the job role before you know it!

I'd like to take every upskilling opportunity that EDF has to offer, perhaps eventually getting into a managerial role.
