Heysham 2 apprentice wins top award for third year running
Amy Peacock, a graduating apprentice from Heysham 2 nuclear power station, has scooped an Apprentice of the Year award at EDF’s annual apprentice celebration held at Aerospace Bristol.
Amy, from Heysham, was named Maintenance, Operations and Engineering Technician (MOET) Apprentice of the Year, ahead of apprentices from stations across the UK. The award recognises the individual who has demonstrated outstanding performance, commitment and personal development throughout the duration of their apprenticeship.
Amy's achievement marks the third consecutive year that a Heysham 2 apprentice has received this top individual award, highlighting the station's continued success in developing the next generation of nuclear professionals.
During her apprenticeship, Amy impressed colleagues with her dedication, technical ability and positive approach to learning, demonstrating the values and behaviours that underpin EDF's commitment to developing highly skilled engineers for the future.
Building on her success as an apprentice, Amy has now secured a permanent Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Technician role at Heysham 2, which she started in the summer.
Amy said:
I feel incredibly honoured to have received this award. The achievement means so much to me, as it reflects the hard work, dedication, determination and passion I have put into my apprenticeship.
"To have this effort recognised in such a special way is something I am extremely proud of and I'm looking forward to applying the skills and experience I've gained as I begin the next stage of my career at Heysham 2.
EDF’s nuclear apprentices combine hands-on experience at power stations with nationally recognised qualifications, building the skills needed to support the safe and reliable generation of low-carbon electricity while establishing rewarding long-term careers in the energy industry.
Joe Struthers, Station Director at Heysham 2 Power Station, said:
Amy's achievement is a fantastic reflection of the talent, commitment and professionalism she has shown throughout her apprenticeship.
"To see a Heysham 2 apprentice recognised with this award for the third-year running is an incredible accomplishment and highlights both the quality of our apprentices and the support provided by our teams across the station.
"Apprentices are vital to the future of our industry and our station. Amy should be immensely proud of what she has achieved, and I know she has a bright future ahead of her as she continues her career at Heysham 2.
This year’s apprentice graduation ceremony was EDF’s largest yet, bringing together 38 apprentices from across the business, highlighting the breadth of opportunities available through its apprenticeship programmes, from nuclear generation and engineering services to renewables, customer and corporate functions, and the Hinkley Point C project.
Thinking about an apprenticeship? Applications for EDF's Engineering Maintenance Technician apprenticeship programme are open until 30 October 2026.
Further apprenticeship opportunities in engineering, project management, chemistry and business will open from January 2027.
